Municipal, Planning & Land Development is a complex combination of local by-laws and provincial legislation/regulations that touches on all aspects of daily life. Municipalities, public bodies, developers, community groups, and individuals each play an important role in the municipal process, but their goals can often come into conflict. Navigating this challenging environment requires an experienced, common-sense approach to resolving legal matters.

SV Law’s Municipal, Planning & Land Development Practice Group actively serves municipalities, public bodies, developers, community groups and individuals.

We provide ongoing counsel on planning- and zoning-related matters, including official plan amendments and re-zonings, plans of subdivision, site plans, minor variances, and severances, as well as Ontario Land Tribunal Appeals.

We also regularly handle municipal conflicts of interest, prosecutions, by-law drafting, municipal tax sales, heritage matters, public procurement, and municipal elections.

Our lawyers work diligently to help all of their clients navigate the labyrinth that is municipal, planning and land development law.

We regularly appear before municipal Councils, local boards, Municipal Heritage Committees, Committees of Adjustment, the Normal Farm Practices Protection Board, the Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Appeal Tribunal, the Ontario Land Tribunal and the Superior Court of Justice.
