Labour & Employment Lawyer

The Role:

SV Law has an exciting opportunity for a Lawyer within our busy Labour and Employment Law Practice Group.  You will be responsible for:

  • advising employer clients on a full range of workplace issues including, but not limited to, contracts, employment standards, executive compensation, human rights, leaves of absence, policies and procedures, professional responsibility, sale of business, termination of employment, tribunals, arbitrations and hearings, workplace harassment and violence, and workplace investigations
  • drafting, reviewing, and/or negotiating a variety of employment documents, including employment agreements, termination letters, workplace policies, and letters
  • advising employee clients regarding their rights and obligations, particularly on termination
  • assisting senior lawyers with collective bargaining, union certification and decertification and grievance arbitrations
  • conducting and reviewing legal research
  • drafting litigation documents, including pleadings, affidavits, and facta
  • representing clients in litigation at various levels of court, in private arbitration and mediation, and before various tribunals including the Ontario Labour Relations Board and the Human Rights Tribunal

You will be one of four lawyers in our Labour and Employment Law Practice Group.  We offer robust mentorship and training opportunities, and you will have the opportunity to build your own Labour and Employment Law practice.

What You Bring:

We are seeking a driven and talented lawyer with 1 to 3 years’ experience in Labour and Employment Law to join our firm at either our Guelph or Elora location and who:

  • is a member of the Ontario Bar in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario
  • has at least 1 year of employment and/or labour law experience
  • has the ability to effectively manage a high volume of work, is self-motivated and entrepreneurial
  • has excellent research, drafting and negotiation skills, and is detail-oriented
  • is eager to take the lead on files as the opportunity arises
  • is team-oriented and collaborative
  • has excellent oral communication and public speaking skills
  • has an enthusiastic and responsive approach to client requirements with excellent people skills

Experience in litigation or labour law is considered an asset.
